The following chapters have passed population-sprawl resolutions in the 18 months prior to the 2001 annual Sierra Club election. These resolutions were similar or identical to the 2001 population-sprawl ballot question.

Summer 1999

The Kern-Kaweah Chapter of the Sierra Club encourages the Sierra Club to accelerate its campaign against rapid population growth in this country and around the world because of its impact on resource depletion and urban sprawl.

Loma Prieta (CA)

Summer 1999

Whereas population growth is an important factor in sprawl; and
 
Whereas the Sierra Club Sprawl Campaign fails to point out the relationship between population growth and sprawl; and
 
Whereas Sierra Club sprawl literature does not mention population stabilization, both regionally and nationally, as a component in the effort to curtail sprawl;
 
Therefore be it resolved: The Sierra Club Loma Prieta Chapter urges all Sierra Club entities to incorporate both regional and national population stabilization as important components in the Sierra Club Campaign Against Sprawl.

Los Padres (CA)

November 2000

Whereas the Sierra Club has made reducing sprawl a national priority campaign; and
 
Whereas population growth is an important driving force of sprawl development in most areas; and
 
Whereas stabilizing the U.S. population has been Sierra Club policy since 1969;
 
Therefore be it resolved: The Sierra Club shall emphasize both regional and national population stabilization as essential components in all Sierra Club sprawl materials and programs.

Maryland

November 2000

The Maryland Chapter urges all Sierra Club entities to include stabilization of US population as one essential goal of the Campaign Against Sprawl. (Summer, 1999)
 
Whereas the Sierra Club has made reducing sprawl a national priority campaign; and
 
Whereas population growth is an important driving force of sprawl development in most areas; and
 
Whereas stabilizing the U.S. population has been Sierra Club policy since 1969;
 
Therefore be it resolved: The Sierra Club shall emphasize both regional and national population stabilization as essential components in all Sierra Club sprawl materials and programs. (November, 2000)

Massachusetts

February 2001

Whereas population growth both globally and locally is directly related to both land use planning and resource depletion, the Massachusetts Chapter encourages the Sierra Club to identify population stabilization as an essential factor in the Club's literature, advertising, action programs, and priority campaigns.

The New Hampshire Chapter of the Sierra Club urges the Sierra Club Board of Directors to identify population stabilization as an essential component in the Club's literature, advertising and other action programs for its Campaign Against Sprawl.

Ohio

Summer 1999

The Ohio Sierra Club recommends that the Sierra Club Campaign Against Sprawl mention rapid population growth as a cause of Sprawl.

Oklahoma

Summer 1999

The Oklahoma Chapter urges all Sierra Club Entities to incorporate U.S. population stabilization as a component in the Sierra Club Campaign against sprawl.

Oregon

September 2000

Whereas the Sierra Club has made reducing sprawl a national priority campaign; and
 
Whereas population growth is an important driving force of sprawl development in most areas; and
 
Whereas stabilizing the U.S. population has been Sierra Club policy since 1969;
 
Therefore be it resolved: The Sierra Club shall emphasize both regional and national population stabilization as essential components in all Sierra Club sprawl materials and programs.

Rhode Island

Summer 1999

The Rhode Island Chapter urges all Sierra Club entities to consider the effects of population growth, class, and transportation policy in the Sierra Club National Campaign Against Sprawl.

Rocky Mountain

July 1999

The Sierra Club Rocky Mountain Chapter Executive Committee urges all Sierra Club entities to incorporate population stabilization as a necessary component in the Sierra Club Campaign Against Sprawl.

San Francisco Bay

Summer 1999

The Sierra Club San Francisco Bay Chapter urges all Sierra Club entities to incorporate U.S. population stabilization as a necessary component in the Sierra Club Campaign Against Sprawl.

San Diego

November 2000

Whereas the Sierra Club has made reducing sprawl a national priority campaign; and
 
Whereas population growth is an important driving force of sprawl development in most areas; and
 
Whereas stabilizing the U.S. population has been Sierra Club policy since 1969;
 
Therefore be it resolved: The Sierra Club shall emphasize both regional and national population stabilization as essential components in Sierra Club sprawl materials and programs.

Tennessee

The Tennessee Chapter urges all Sierra Club entities to incorporate U.S. population stabilization as a necessary component in the Sierra Club Campaign Against Sprawl.

Ventana (CA)

The Ventana Chapter urges the Sierra Club Board Of Directors to identify Population Stabilization as an essential component in the Club's literature, advertising, and action programs for its Campaign Against Sprawl.

Vermont

August 2000

Whereas the Sierra Club has made reducing sprawl a national priority campaign; and
 
Whereas population growth is an important driving force of sprawl development in most areas; and
Whereas stabilizing the U.S. population has been Sierra Club policy since 1969;
 
Therefore be it resolved: The Sierra Club shall emphasize both regional and national population stabilization as educational components in Sierra Club sprawl campaigns.
